From the egg donors, who address us, most of them use contraceptives. That is normal and natural, and mainly does not affect on the process of egg donation. Nevertheless, some methods of birth control can result in suspending egg donation in certain term. What birth control methods lead to an egg donation program being "suspended"?
DEPO-PROVERA
Depo-Provera delays the egg donation process by six months. This is the longest suspension, which is carried out because of birth control. If you use that method, please, stop its use and contact us in six months. It is proved that after suspension, during six months the number of the donated eggs is very low. We want to make sure there is enough time for all the medicine to leave your body before the stimulation to get a large number of eggs. You should also have regular and normal menstrual cycle before beginning the process.
NORPLANT.IMPLANON
This birth control method, the implant, suspends egg donation for two months. After removing the implant the normal thickness of the egg donor hormone is getting restored during two weeks. The general guideline is to wait 4-6 weeks to be sure that the potential of the egg donor body fertility is at optimal level before beginning the stimulation cycle.
HORMONAL SUSPENSION
Two kinds of intra-uterine device are used for preventing the pregnancy. The first: the paraguard or the other products based on copper, can remain transferred during the egg donation. The second is the intra-uterine womb based on hormones – mirena. These types of contraceptive really should be removed, but the removal process is different with different persons. Some egg donors may leave the device until their medical examination. Sometimes those with a low Ovarian Assessment Rate (OAR) need to have the device removed as soon as possible and wait for two normal menstrual cycles before we can start the donation process. The OAR is a simple test which gives the best assessment of your reproductive health. If you have additional concerns on your method of birth control, and how will it affect on the egg donation, then you should discuss those issues with the doctor gynecologist-reproducer.
